Riverside Animal Hospital started in 1945 or 1946 by Dr. McIntyre. This makes our hospital the oldest operating veterinary hospital in Bossier City. The first name was McIntyre Animal Hospital. Dr. McIntyre opened on Barksdale Boulevard soon after he arrived home from WWII. In 1959, he was forced to move by the soon to be built I-20 bridge and highway coming through town. He relocated on Westgate Lane next to the Red River and just outside the West Gate of Barksdale Air Force Base. Soon the Shreveport Barksdale bridge was built and Dr. McIntyre soon retired and sold the practice in the early 1970s. Drs. Hampton, Willis and Davis bought the practice and changed the name to Riverside Animal Hospital. In 1987, Dr. Glen Ritter became the managing veterinarian and purchased the practice in 1991. Progress once again required our building to relocate in 1997. This time it was only across the street to our present location at 1000 Westgate Lane.
