Our Services

 IMMUNIZATION AND WELLNESS CARE

We strive to prevent illness whenever possible.  The time and effort invested in wellness programs have rewards for both pets and owners.  Our wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include; comprehensive physical exam, internal parasite testing, heartworm and flea control programs, vaccination program, spay and neuter package, and specialized blood tests for all life stages.  Be sure to ask an assistant or the veterinarian if you have questions about your pet’s wellness.

DENTAL CARE

Regular professional cleaning is important to maintain your pet’s teeth.  We use modern and safe ultrasonic cleaner to clean each tooth thoroughly, above and below the gum line.  Dental assistants polish teeth to create a smooth surface that is more resistant to plaque buildup.  Coatings are applied to help stop plaque and to protect the enamel.  Advanced dental care is available, including root canals, caps and braces.  These are referred as needed.

INTERNAL MEDICINE

We cover all areas of internal medicine, including:  Cardiology;  Ophthalmology; Neurology;  Dermatology;  Gastroenterology;  Orthopedic surgery;  Oncology;  Endocrinology;  among others.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

Illness doesn’t always have a physical cause.  Our veterinarian will help determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior and then develop a treatment regimen for the patient.

Pamphlets on dog training are also provided and referral to several Dog Training Professionals.  Remember, good behavior starts the day you bring your new pet home.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING

Some pets require special food, and all pets, like people, benefit from a balanced diet.  Our trained staff is available to help you choose the right diet for your pet.  We have a variety of pet foods that are specific for certain medical and dietary issues.  We want to keep your pet happy, healthy and active.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do.  We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care.  Since 2006, Dr. Ritter attends an annual Pain Management Seminar  learning various treatments for surgical pain and chronic pain in pets.  Pain management is especially important as our pets age, as many signs of  old age are associated with pain.

Laser Therapy:  Riverside Animal Hospital recently acquired a K-Laser therapy laser. This is cold laser technology that stimulates the body tissues to heal and reduce pain.  This treatment is especially working well with pets with chronic arthritis. Six treatments over 3 weeks initially, followed by weekly and sometimes even monthly sessions.  Laser Therapy is a great supplement to other types of pain medication, sometimes reducing the dose of all medications taken.  Call today and see if your pet would benefit from Laser Therapy.

MICROCHIPPING

Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families.  We offer the HomeAgain microchip product to incrrease the chances of a safe recovery.  Microchips have also become the standard for identification for travel overseas.  The new HomeAgain Registration Service provides added benefits beyond the registration of your pet.  HomeAgain practices proactive pet search.  They will send out emails to everyone in the network to assist in finding a lost pet, including the Animal Controls and Humane Societies.  HomeAgain will also register your microchip even if it’s with another company.

BLOOD TRANSFUSION

There are special circumstances and emergencies where your pet may need a blood transfusion.  We have several animals owned by employees and clients that have been screened for use as donors if ever needed.

POCKET PETS AND SMALL MAMMALS

With better public education in health, nutritional, and environmental management, all species have a greater chance for living longer and healthier lives.  We can provide the information you need to help keep your pocket pet healthy.

DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

We have in house diagnostic services to detect infections, metabolic and organ function.  Most test completed in 15 to 30 minutes, while clients wait.  Pathology is sent out for accurate results from the diagnostic lab the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.  ECGs are performed in house or sent by Telemedicine to veterinary cardiologist.  We also use local Schumpert Lab, Antech Diagnostics, or IDEXX for back up test as needed.

DIGITAL RADIOLOGY

Radiographs – or X-rays – help the veterinarian evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive, dental and urinary systems.  Going Digital allows us to obtain good quality images quickly.  It also allows us to  email radiographs as needed for second opinions or for referral for special surgery.  Ultrasound diagnostics also assist the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions of the internal organs.

FULLY STOCKED PHARMACY

We stock a wide variety of the best veterinary drugs in the animal health care field.  Our medicines range from those for routine prevention, such as fleas and ticks, to those needed for treatment of rare disorders.  We have prices that, in most cases, are less than internet pharmacies.
